Is it y'all or ya'll?
I don't know. I don't use this word. I know, some of you are probably surprised since I live in a "barn" and all. :) My sign made me question this. Any southern gals want to help me out?
It honestly depends on where you are from. Technically though if you look at the word, it is "you" and "all" put together. So if you want to get technical it would be y'all.
Thanks for the input, ladies. :) I had always assumed it was ya'll, so that is why I was questioning the sign. But, my husband and I had the "you" & "all" together = y'all convo. Interesting to know it's different depending on where you live.
It is indeed a contraction of "you" & "all" and thus "y'all" is the appropriate spelling. Unless you are referring to a VERY large group, in which case it would be "all y'all" (with extra emphasis on the "all").
Married to my love for 4+ years, together for 10+. Infertility sucks. IUI with injectibles worked, but a miscarriage & ectopic followed. Another IUI worked, and we welcomed our perfect little man in August 2011!
In Tennessee we spell it ya'll.

ReplyDeleteThat is at least what it is in Texas. :)

ReplyDeleteY'all. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics! :)
I learned it as "y'all". And I say "all y'all" too. I'm Californian, but descended from Texas, Indiana, and Missouri. It's a family thang!
